Serena Williams’ coach Rennae Stubbs has reacted to the multi-million dollar splurges of several high-profile American sports team owners into political campaigns for the 2026 US Midterm Elections. According to Stubbs, such lavish spending would be much better off if it were done in favor of communities instead of politics.
On Wednesday, October 28, Front Office Sports released a report of multiple owners, including Dallas Mavericks majority owner Miriam Adelson, Denver Broncos principal owner Rob Walton, and Atlanta Hawks principal owner and governor Tony Ressler. The report outlined the huge sums of money the respective owners have spent on political campaigns. It’s worth noting that based on the report, Adelson ($67.63 million), Walton ($8.96 million) and Ressler ($2.71 million) all contributed to the Republicans’ campaign.
Stubbs, the Australian former World No. 1 in women’s doubles tennis and the current coach of Williams, shared an infographic originally published by Front Office Sports on her Instagram Stories. The 55-year-old captioned her post:
“And to think! You could just give this money to your own communities! This country is disgraceful with the amount of $$$$ in politics! Truly absurd!”

Vinod Khosla, the Indian-American entrepreneur who owns the Seattle Seahawks, is the only name in the top 10 spenders who splurged on the campaign for the Democratic Party.
On the tennis front, Stubbs worked with Williams to engineer the latter’s sensational pro tennis comeback earlier this year. One of the former World No. 1 American’s former rivals recently weighed in on whether the 23-time Major singles champion plans to extend her return.
“There is probably a long-term plan” – Serena Williams’ former rival on American’s future in professional tennis
Under Stubbs’ tutelage, Williams made her competitive tennis return earlier in 2026, with her only singles outing being her first-round loss to her coach’s young compatriot Maya Joint at the Wimbledon Championships. Williams also sustained a knee injury during the contest, with the legendary American’s most recent competitive campaign being in women’s doubles with older sister Venus at the US Open.
The former No. 1’s ex-rival Daniela Hantuchova recently spoke to Match Point Canada about the American’s future prospects in the sport, and expressed uncertainty. Hantuchova, the Slovak former World No. 5, said:
“I might agree that probably for Serena to make all the effort and the training and try to come back just maybe for one or two events, there is probably a long-term plan. But also, you know, you have to respect your body at our age. You never know. So, I’m as curious to see what’s going to happen as you are.”
At the US Open, Williams lost her first-round doubles match partnering sister Venus and she is yet to confirm where she plays next.
